SAN FRANCISCO – College of San Mateo scored on all but one first half possession to take a 34-7 lead at rival City College of San Francisco and roll onto a 51-7 Bay 6 League victory Saturday afternoon.
It was the Bulldogs third straight win over the Rams and all but wrapped up a third consecutive league title.
The two-time defending Northern California champion and state No. 3 ranked Bulldogs are now 3-0 in the B6 and 7-1 overall with two regular season games remaining.
CSM hosts last place San Joaquin Delta College (0-3, 0-8) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and visits fifth place Laney (1-2, 3-5) in the Nov. 15 Friday night finale. The Bulldogs need to win only one of those contest to clinch the title and a state playoff berth. Delta lost to Laney, 35-0, on Saturday.
LOOKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT PERFECT HOME SEASON:. CSM can complete a third straight perfect home regular season with a win on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 19-0 at home for all games, including playoffs, since a 31-27 setback to CCSF in the 2021 regular season finale. The current overall win streak is five games.
Against the Rams on Saturday, CSM posted a 50-spot for the first time in a year – since a 62-7 win over Delta on Nov. 4, 2023 (which concluded an offensive outburst of four straight 50 and 60-point games).
Dominic Ingrassia threw a pair of touchdown passes, going 9 of 13 for 132 yards, while only playing until the intermission break. A "perfect" afternoon raised his B6-leading passer efficiency rating (among regulars) to 148.8. The freshman out of San Marin High School has completed 50 of 82 passes(61 per cent) for 669 yards over five games since emergency activation from the grayshirt ranks.
B6 rushing leader Lolo Mataele was only needed for first half duty and ran for 47 yards on eight carries, including his tenth touchdown. He ranks No. 2 in the state in rushing TDs.
"I really was happy with our special teams play, including a punt return for a TD and a conversion on a fake kick," said CSM head coach Tim Tulloch.
Hassan Mahasin had the 81-yard punt return score that put the Bulldogs in good control at 27-7 with less than three minutes left in the first half.
CSM got the ball right back on a pass interception by Sherrod Smith (his fourth of the season) near midfield to set-up another score -- off the fake kick.
State punting leader Tashi Dorje increased his average to 43.4 on Saturday, although not kicking until the second half. He made another mark on a fake punt, just 28 seconds before halftime. The sophomore, out of Liberty High (Brentwood), threw a 23-yard pass to long snapper Luke Wilson to set-up the score -- also giving himself a 293.2 efficiency rating for his lone pass attempt of the season. San Mateo quickly reached paydirt. Ingrassia connected with Nico Caruso on a 25-yard TD for the 34-7 intermission margin.
Dieter Kelly increased his Northern California kick-scoring lead to 60 points, successfully executing on all three field goal attempts (34, 47, and 37 yards) and the six PATs – for 15 points in the game.
The San Mateo defense shut down the Rams. Their only score came in the first quarter -- when the Bulldogs started a series deep and lost a fumble on their own 4-yard line. State sacks leader John Gayer and teammate Mckyle So'oto tackled CCSF QB Chrisian Banks for a 4-yard loss on the next play. Banks then managed to connect with Richard Washington on an 8-yard pass for the lone Rams tally. CSM responded with 44 unanswered points.
Banks completed just 3-of-8 passes for 49 yards. The Rams passed for only 59 yards (4 of 13), with two picked off, and had just 161 total offense. CSM totaled 366 yards, passing for 275.
Conner Annicharico, a CSM starting signal caller who had been sidelined with an early season injury, played after the intermission and completed 6-of-13 passes for 120 yards, including an 8-yard TD throw to Maurice Savage. Ali Collier did most of the second half ball hauling, gaining 42 yards on eight carries. He had a 21-yard touchdown to complete a 70-yard third quarter drive.
KB Boone-Nelson had four pass receptions for 62 yards, including the game's first score, a 16-yard throw from Ingrassia. Jaelin Green caught three passes for 86 yards.
